Liao Terms of Use (updated 2026-10-23)

This is a translation of the Simplified Chinese original. If the two versions differ, the Simplified Chinese version prevails.

Operator: the Liao team. Contact email: [email protected].

1. What the service is

Liao (the "Software") is a cross-border chat translation tool that runs on your computer: on your own computer it opens the web versions of chat apps, reads the chat you are viewing, translates the text into the language you choose, and shows the result as cards, or writes it into the chat's message box after you click "Fill into message box". Whether to send, and what to send, is always your own decision.

2. Account

  1. You sign up with an account name + password + email verification code; the account name consists of English letters, or letters and numbers, and is not case-sensitive.
  2. Your email is used for signing in, receiving verification codes and recovering your password; you can sign in with either your account name or your email together with your password.
  3. You are responsible for keeping your account and password safe; for the top-up balance and usage records of your account, the server-side records prevail.
  4. You can sign out in the app at any time; signing out clears the sign-in state saved on this computer.
  5. Two-step verification (optional, off by default): you can turn it on in the account center on the website and use any authenticator app to generate one-time codes. Once it is on, you must enter that code to sign in; keep your 10 one-time backup codes safe: if you lose your phone or your authenticator is deleted, and your backup codes are used up, we cannot bypass the check for you (we can only reset it after manually verifying your identity through the support process). Turning off two-step verification requires your password plus a currently valid code.
  6. Sub-accounts / workspace members: a main account can invite other accounts into its workspace and manage the balance for all of them; it can allocate credit to a member (without an allocation, the member shares the main account's balance). The main account is responsible for how the members it invites use the Software in this workspace, including the usage and fees they incur. Members can hand a client over to a colleague in Liao; only the member handing over can start this, and the main account cannot see what was handed over.

3. Your content and our boundaries

  1. Your chat apps' login data (accounts, cookies, local profiles) does not leave your computer; we neither read nor export it.
  2. Only the content you choose to translate, analyze or give to Liao (text, images, voice, files), and the information about the one person you hand over when you click "Hand over to a colleague", are sent to our servers (plus data without chat content, such as crash reports; see the Privacy Policy): the former is passed on by the server to third-party translation or model services to produce translations, analysis results or answers; the latter is stored temporarily in encrypted form and passed only to the one colleague you chose, and is deleted as soon as the colleague accepts or declines it, and in any case after no more than 7 days.
  3. You must make sure you have the right to translate and process this content; do not use the Software to process illegal content or other people's private data without their consent. Information handed over to a colleague contains the other person's personal information; hand it over only to a colleague in this workspace who will keep serving this client.
  4. We will not use your chat content to train models, and we will not sell it to third parties.

4. AI features

  1. AI only produces suggestions (insights, explanations, candidate replies) and will not send any message automatically.
  2. Insights and explanations can be wrong; check them yourself before using them.
  3. When a model service is not set up or is unavailable, the Software honestly shows "Unavailable" and will not give you fake results.

5. Top-ups and billing

  1. Translation and AI analysis are measured in characters and charged to your balance; the exact unit prices are those shown on the top-up page and in your bills.
  2. Top-ups are paid in USDT (TRC20) and are credited after 19 block confirmations.
  3. Once a top-up has been credited it is irreversible and non-refundable; for losses caused by underpaying, overpaying or sending to a wrong address on-chain, we will help as far as we can, but we are not liable to compensate for them. See the Top-up Terms for details.

6. Fair use

  1. You may not use the Software to send spam in bulk, to harass others, or to get around the chat platforms' terms of service.
  2. You bear the risk of account restrictions, bans and similar consequences caused by using the broadcast helper or later automation features; the broadcast helper can only send to people you have chatted with, and you press send for every message yourself.
  3. We reserve the right to suspend the service and freeze balances (to support an investigation) when we find abuse, and we will explain why.

7. Changes to and termination of the service

  1. We keep updating the Software; major changes will be explained in this document and in the app.
  2. You can stop using it at any time and export your own local data (local analysis records can be exported and cleared).
  3. If the service shuts down, we will announce it in advance and explain how remaining balances will be handled.

8. Disclaimer

  1. The Software is provided "as is"; we do not guarantee that translation or analysis results are completely accurate.
  2. Disputes between you and a third-party chat platform arising from your use of the Software are for you and that platform to resolve.
  3. If a chat platform changes its site, or restricts or bans your account, or if your computer, your network, or a third-party translation or AI service fails, and as a result the Software is temporarily unusable or gives wrong results, we will do our best to fix it but are not responsible for any resulting loss.
  4. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you will not exceed the amount you actually paid us in the 12 months before the problem occurred; this limit does not apply to losses caused by our intentional misconduct or gross negligence, or where mandatory law provides otherwise.
