Different languages,
still saying what you mean.
When your partner or in-laws speak another language, the hard part usually isn't the words. It's the tone, and saying something kind without it sounding stiff. On a Windows PC, Liao translates incoming WhatsApp, LINE and Telegram messages into your language, and translates what you type when you press Enter. When you're not sure what someone meant, the Liao assistant beside the chat helps you read it and offers a few ways to reply. You press Send yourself, every time.

Where translation apps fall short
- Right words, wrong tone: a casual "whatever you want" can come across as annoyed.
- Forms of address get mixed up: the way you talk to your partner and to their parents isn't the same, and word-for-word translation often blurs it.
- Copying back and forth is slow: in the middle of an apology or a hard conversation, switching apps for every line lets the moment go cold.
What Liao does on your PC
- Translates as messages arrive: each message gets a translation underneath. When a message says more than its words, a short note explains the subtext.
- Translates your reply when you press Enter: before sending, read the back-translation, your message turned back into your language, to check the meaning held up. Press Enter again to send.
- Helps with the line you're unsure about: select it in the chat and right-click to ask Liao to explain it or say it differently, or ask Liao anything.
- Picks up where you left off: your Liao conversations are kept per person, so after a few days Liao can help you pick up the last topic. Memories are stored only on your computer, and you can clear them in Settings at any time.
Small habits that help
- One thing per message for the important stuff: an apology, a time to meet, a reminder about medicine. The back-translation is easier to check, too.
- In an argument, read the back-translation before sending. If it sounds harsher than you meant, say it differently.
- If you can't tell their tone, just ask: "Are you joking or serious?" It beats guessing.
- Pick one of Liao's suggestions, then change it into words you'd actually say.
Good to know
- Liao runs on Windows 10 and 11 only for now. There's no phone version.
- Liao never replies for you and never sends anything on its own.
- Text that needs translating goes through our server to a translation service. Your logins and chat history stay on your computer.
